Long time readers will know I love photography. In fact I’ve realised recently that it migrated from a hobby to a habit a few weeks back. So when I heard that Scoble was going to introduce photowalking on his ScobleShow I was mildly excited. After all, following an excellent photographer around like Thomas Hawk around is something I personally get to do on a regular basis.

Aside from the fact that it’s fun, and it draws me in so I feel I’m on the walk, it’s one of the best uses of videocasting I’ve seen. I’ve mentioned a few times that videocasting is overused–some video’s simply include two people sitting down for a chat. Why view a video of an interview, when I can listen to it and lose no real content. However, videocasting a photowalk means I get to see a photographer’s technique, the lighting, the equipment, examples of the photographs taken, and the locations. In fact it is so clever, I wonder why a show like it hasn’t made it to television yet, because to be honest, it’s not even really niche anymore with the boom in sales of digital cameras.

Scoble has promised he’ll continue the photowalking series even after he completes the Hawk collection. I’m looking forward to seeing who else he follows, and my one request is that he keeps up the pace. Several a week mean I get to watch them during my lunch break.

He’s asked what photographers would love to see, “Models? Scenery? In a studio? Wine country? Gold country? Beaches? Sports?” Yes please Scoble, all of the above.

By the way Scobe, you’re more than welcome to visit me in Perth for a photowalk. When are you headed to Australia? :)
